Sauvignonasse

Known as Fruilano in northern Italy and Sauvignon Vert in France and Chile, this lightly aromatic variety can be a little gem, albeit hard find due to its sparse plantings. Although Sauvignonasse's spelling may suggest it is the progeny of Sauvignon Blanc, DNA profiling has established it is an old variety from the Gironde region of south-west France. Sauvignonasse's typically offer light herbal wines, which are, generally speaking, less crisp and aromatically pungent than Sauvignon Blanc, but can offer more body and intrigue on the palate.
