The very warm harvest temperatures typical of Napa Valley in 1985 were moderated by the altitude of the Zinfandel vineyards on the York Creek Ranch. The vines’ full maturity gave us abundant varietal fruit. The proportion of new oak and nineteen months in small cooperage contributed a sophisticated character. This excellent wine seems more approachable than most recent York Creek vintages, yet the structure clearly promises a wine that will develop more fully with five or six years of bottle age.
