Parhelia Cask #9 Remi Landier 1994 Vintage Cognac Fins Bois 58.3% - (700ml)
5 Generations of Landiers have distilled Cognac in the Fins Bois, the largest of Cognac's six crus. They laid down this cask, distilled from a vineyard near the village of Matha, from the 1994 harvest. Setting a single year aside was a gamble: no blending to correct it, no way to hide a weak harvest, and thirty years of cellar rent before anyone could tell whether it had been worth it. The producer of this spirit vinified the wine by natural fermentation, no chaptalisation, no sulphur addition on the distillation wines
Importer's Tasting Notes:
Tasting Notes
On the nose, it opens on the characteristic floral notes of Fins Bois — delicate white flowers, acacia honey. Beneath sits a complex layer of dried fruit: apricot, fig, candied orange peel. French oak contributes subtle vanilla and toasted almond. Remarkably well integrated: the alcohol releases the aromatics rather than overwhelming them.
On the palate, rich and voluptuous on entry, silky, mouth-coating. The floral character persists, joined by waves of stone fruit and honey. Mid-palate brings warming baking spice — cinnamon, nutmeg, a whisper of white pepper. The oak is refined, never dominant, and the humid cellar has preserved a striking freshness alongside three decades of depth.
The finish is extraordinarily long and evolving, unfolding in chapters: fruit sweetness gives way to spice, then settles into a meditative rancio with cigar box, dark chocolate and dried mushroom.
Overall a masterclass in Fins Bois character and patient maturation — the terroir's signature elegance carried into the profound complexity that three decades in cask can achieve. Exceptional balance of power and refinement, and a vindication of the millésime gamble taken thirty years ago.
