Jack Daniel was a Master Distiller who knew the secret of making fine sipping whiskey. He was also a small-town gentleman who knew the secret of making good friends.
In 1904, Jack Daniel befriended Mr. M. Hoctor of Great Britain at the St. Louis World’s fair. The Englishman insisted the world would welcome the distinctive taste of Mr. Jack’s charcoal-mellowed whiskey. He encouraged Mr. Jack to send the very first of his whiskey to Europe, where, in 1905, it was awarded the Gold Medal in Liege, Belgium.
Second in the Gold Medal series, this 750ml bottle, released in 1997, celebrates Jack Daniel’s 1905 Gold Medal. A 1L version of the 1905 Gold Medal bottle was produced for international markets. - jackdaniels.com

Product Review
Shortly after his success in St. Louis, Jack chose to once again showcase his whiskey, but this time on an international platform. The World Exposition of 1905 in Liege, Belgium, is where he next entered in competition, and once again judges awarded his Tennessee Whiskey a gold medal. This bottle commemorates that achievement.
Beginning in 1996 and continuing for the next 10 years, the Jack Daniel Distillery released its Gold Medal Series of commemorative bottles. Comprised of seven unique designs, each bottle in this series celebrates a different gold medal won by the Distillery. In the U.S., the series featured 750ml bottles filled with 90 proof whiskey. International markets offer these bottles only in a 1 liter size, with the exception of the first bottle in the series which was available only in the 750ml size.
Hard hit by Prohibition, for decades American Whiskey has been primarily thought of as a Southern staple rather than a world class spirit. Now whether you're looking for a Rye, Bourbon, or even a Single Malt, you'll find a large range from a number of distilleries, from North to South and from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts.
