(2003 vintage) "A big, beefy wine from this southern version of Tinta Amarela, this is rich, solid and full of fine black currants. There is some wood, but it underlines the fruit and leaves a rich, satisfying, fresh wine but with structure. Imported by Aidil Wines & Liquor Inc." - Wine Enthusiast

There are over 80 grape varieties grown in the Douro valley. Most are old vines jumbled together within the same vineyards and are indistinguishable from one another. There are however, five varieties acknowledged as having best adapted to the region and which make the finest Port. Listed in order, from the most popular to the least, they are: - Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional (considered the finest), and Tinto Cão.
Alentejo is best known for its red wines, some of which are made from Aragonez (Tempranillo), Castelao, Trincadeira or a blend of the three. The region has also adopted popular varieties such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Alentejo has been recognized for creating a uniquely Alentejano wine style from quintessentially French grape varieties.

Red wine is wine made from dark-coloured grape varieties. The color of red differs based on the grapes variety or varieties used.Interestingly, black grapes yield a juice that is greenish-white. The actual red color comes from anthocyan pigments (also called anthocyanins) from the skin of the grape (exceptions are the relatively uncommon teinturier varieties, which produce a red colored juice). Most of the production centers around the extraction of color and flavor from the grape skin.
