Founded in 1833, Florio is the world’s oldest Marsala producer and one of the original pioneers that brought this singular Sicilian wine to international prominence. Marsala stands apart as Italy’s one and only traditional fortified wine—distinct from Port, Sherry, or Madeira—crafted for pure enjoyment, whether savored neat, in cocktails, or as a defining ingredient in sweet or savory cuisine. As one of the few wineries based in Marsala itself, Florio remains the leading guardian of authentic, premium Marsala, producing roughly 90% of all DOC Marsala globally using only native grapes, led by Grillo, and patient aging in quiet oak cellars by the sea, where time, oxygen, and tradition shape wines of unmistakable depth and character.

Vinification

Pressing of grapes with a higher sugar content, while maintaining the skin contact with must. Fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature in concrete to maintain the tannins and prepare the wine for its encounter with alcohol.

Aging

Aged in singular, oak casks for 7 years, moving position in the cellar along the way, followed by three months in bottle. 1.5 micron filtration.

91 points Decanter World Wine Awards

Sweet aromas of prunes, raisins, fig compote, candied citrus peel, caramelised nuts and toffee. Very sweet with tangy acidity.

91 points Vinous

The 2015 Semisecco Marsala Superiore Riserva displays a dark amber color. It lifts from the glass with cinnamon, cloves and dried black cherries. This is silky smooth with a balanced inner sweetness, mixing cocoa with baked apple and ground ginger. It finishes surprisingly fresh yet long and staining, leaving a mocha tinge and hints of brown spice. This is nicely done and beautifully balanced, finishing at 80 grams of residual sugar per liter and 19% abv. - By Eric Guido, June 2023

90 points Wine Enthusiast

A warming, walnut brown pour in the glass sets the stage for honey, cooked apples, stewed apricots and figs on the nose on top of buttery, leathery undertones. The palate feels delightfully indulgent with maple syrup and French toast, brown butter and rum raisin—it almost demands a cheese pairing.  Danielle Callegari
