Centenary Carignane 100 %
I found the 2018 Selecció Especial pure Cariñena to be more harmonious than the blend of Vinyas Vellas, despite having similar alcohol levels at 14.5%. It has a low pH of 3.3 and 5.82 grams of tartaric acid per liter of wine, very good parameters for freshness and typical of Cariñena on slate soils from Priorat. It has notes of wild berries and flowers, graphite and smoke and spices after aging in 225-liter French barriques for 18 months. A long-distance runner. 4,230 bottles and 150 magnums were filled in August 2020. - Luis Gutiérrez
This dark garnet wine has aromas of wild blackberries, tobacco leaf and a touch of baking spice. Black cherry, dark plum, violet, anise and dried oregano flavors are set into velvety tannins that are well matched by a sense of brightness that remains on the palate. — Mike DeSimone

Old-vine Carignan grapes, fully ripened on infertile soils in a warm summer, produce by far the best Carignan wine. The key here is that yields have been restricted and there is enough ripe fruit character to mask the naturally high tannins and acidity.

Red wine is wine made from dark-coloured grape varieties. The color of red differs based on the grapes variety or varieties used.Interestingly, black grapes yield a juice that is greenish-white. The actual red color comes from anthocyan pigments (also called anthocyanins) from the skin of the grape (exceptions are the relatively uncommon teinturier varieties, which produce a red colored juice). Most of the production centers around the extraction of color and flavor from the grape skin.
