It hails from the famed Ardbeg Distillery (est. 1815) on Islay – a distillery celebrated as the “Ultimate Islay Malt” for its balance of intense peat smoke and unexpected sweetness. This special Smokiverse expression pushes Ardbeg’s classic character into a new dimension, both honoring the distillery’s legacy and showcasing its innovative spirit.

In crafting Smokiverse, Ardbeg employed a high-gravity mashing technique – essentially using less water in the mash tun to create a more concentrated wort rich in sugars and flavor-bearing esters. This brewing-inspired process (a first for Ardbeg) intensified fruity and sweet notes in the spirit, yielding tropical fruit and bubblegum-like esters alongside Ardbeg’s hallmark peaty smoke. After fermentation and distillation, the whisky was matured in ex-bourbon barrels to enhance its character. Bottled at 48.3% ABV (96.6 proof) without chill filtration, Ardbeg Smokiverse delivers a bold yet balanced dram that layers rich sweetness over deep smoke.
