Carpineto Rosso di Montalcino - 2022 (750ml)
Winery Notes:
Carpineto’s Montalcino estate is one of the highest in the appellation at an altitude of 500 meters (1,600 ft) above sea level. The sedimentary soil has a galestro frame with clay accumulations dating to the Eocene era (15 million years ago). The vineyards are surrounded by thick woods which protect the vineyard from the warm and humid westerly winds that come up from the Maremma and confer the wine flavors of wild berries and Mediterranean herbs. The unique microclimate gives wines with intense bouquets, vibrant acidities, fine elegance, and great longevity.
The nose is crisp and invigorating, with aromas of black pepper, sour cherry, strawberry and soil. The palate brings more strawberries and cherries, but that earthy element is fortified by a foundation of firm tannins and ultimately dominates. — Danielle Callegari
A cascade of violets and lavender gives way to blackberries and cloves in as the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. Soothingly round and pliant, it sweeps across the palate with opulently ripe wild berry fruits and sweet spice. Juicy acidity maintains balance as the 2022 leaves a pleasantly bitter tinge and a coating of fine tannins. - Eric Guido July 2024
