Vineyard Notes
Freedom Hill is located in the foothills of the coast range 10 miles southwest of Salem, Oregon. During the day, warm air rises from the valley floor ripening the skins. At night, cool ocen breezes act to retain acidity. The Chardonnay blocks have a southwest exposure at an elevation of 520’ to 580'. The vines were planted in 2006 and 2007 with Dijon clones 76 and 548 on well-drained, very old sedimentary clay loam.
Production Notes
Release Date: Sep 2023; Production 816 cases. The grapes were whole cluster pressed. After settling, the juice was barrel fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine completed malolactic fermentation naturally and was aged sur lees for 11 months entirely in used French oak barrels.
Food Pairing Notes
Rich white meat, vegetarian, and pasta dishes with complex sauces and rich flavors
91 pts, Burghound - ...there is good richness and volume to the expansive and delicious medium weight flavors that possess very good punch on the lingering, balanced, clean and attractively dry finish that exhibits a touch of austerity. This is lovely and while it too is already drinking well, 2 to 3 years of cellaring should only add to the overall appeal.
93 pts, International Wine Report - Boasts rich notes of lemon cream, fresh yellow peach, marzipan, white linens, crushed rocks, and wet clay. Medium-bodied, it finishes long and elegant with lemony acidity and a solid structure.
93 pts, Wine Enthusiast - Fresh, zesty aromas of lime and pine needles are joined by a bit of earthiness and Corn Nuts. There is a lemon-lime edge to the medium-bodied palate, with touches of chamomile tea and sugar cookies.

Its adaptability to different soils and climates, and malleability in the wine room make Chardonnay one of the most popular and ubiquitous grapes. Responsible for some of the world’s most thrilling white wines wines including Champagne, it is in its homeland of Burgundy with villages such as Chablis, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet that producers craft arguably some of the world’s finest wines. Chardonnay is also synonymous with California, where it can display riper, tropical fruit flavors, rather than the more restrained stone fruit and steely, mineral qualities often associated with its Old World and cool climate counterparts. While there are terrific fresh and vibrant Chardonnays made solely using stainless steel, the grape also knits terrifically well with oak, lending greater depth and weight in the form of a nutty, toasty and somtimes buttery component.
Oregon is without a doubt establishing a reputation for producing to some of America’s finest wines, made from Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling. The Willamette Valley is the largest and most well known AVA. The Dundee and Eola hills, as well as Ribbon ridge are three of its most promising sub-regions.
