Wines: Ladoix

Ladoix is the most northern commune in the Cote de Beaune district of Burgundy. Producing mainly red wine from Pinot Noir, a little white wine is also made in addition to the 6 hectares Corton-Charlemagne. As well as the 22 hectares (out of 160) of Grand Cru Corton, the commune has eleven premier crus spread out over 24 ha/59 acres including part of Le Rognet and Les Vergennes, which although technically Aloxe-Corton premier crus, are confusingly sited in Ladoix. Perhaps because its wines has been overlooked, historically, by more popular villages, a lot of the communes's wine are often sold as Côte de Beaune-Villages, however it's leading producers, such as the Gagnerot*s and Chevalier, offer relative bargains that are definitely worth seeking out.
