The 2021 Spartburgunder is the estate Pinot Noir, harvested from younger vines across sites in Kallstadt, Ungstein and leistadt and some older vines, especially those with German genetics. Elderberry aromatics with slight smokiness are the opening accents. The palate is fresh but with rounded, translucent, slightly lifted fruit, bright with freshness and fine, gentle tannins. The impression is of darker berry and forest fruit juiciness, without any fat and some toasty oak.
