Wines: Aloxe-Corton
A sleepy little village, Aloxe-Corton pronounced 'Alosse' houses some of Burgundies oldest Cellars. It's vineyards, facing south and southeast, stretch over halfway around the famous hill of Corton accounting for most of the hill's grand crus (Corton - red and Corton-Charlemagne - white) that are shared with Ladoix and Pernand-Vergelesses. The village has thirteen premier crus nearly all of which makes red wine and are situated in a band below the Corton grand cru vineyards. The little quantities of white made (less than 1 percent), is usually blended with a little Pinot Beurot (Pinot Gris) and worth tracking down for its idiosyncratic flavor.
