Jackals River Pinotage 2020 is a great expression of this style. At only 13.00% alcohol it is deliciously medium bodied. There are aromas of pure fruit; dark berries, mulberries and spice which follow onto a palate that is juicy and medium bodied, but still retains fine grainy tannins and mouth filling fruit. Drink now, slightly chilled in the summer or over the next 10 to 15 years.
Our style reflects the cooler climate of the Bot River region. Harvested between mid-February and mid-March the grapes are then crushed into open concrete fermenters. Punched down 3-4 times per day until end of ferment, then pressed and taken to barrel for 14 months and then taken to tank for another 8 months. Fresh red berry fruit with a deliciously drinkable medium body and well-integrated tannins.

Pinotage is a cross between Pinot noir and Cinsaut . It typically produces deep red varietal wines with smoky, bramble and earthy flavors, sometimes with notes of bananas and tropical fruit.
Red wine is wine made from dark-coloured grape varieties. The color of red differs based on the grapes variety or varieties used.
Interestingly, black grapes yield a juice that is greenish-white. The actual red color comes from anthocyan pigments (also called anthocyanins) from the skin of the grape (exceptions are the relatively uncommon teinturier varieties, which produce a red colored juice). Most of the production centers around the extraction of color and flavor from the grape skin.
