In addition to a "stand-out" fresh/young peach, it contains mainly dark, heavy aromas, typical sherry aromas, raisins, plums, dates, other dried fruits, such as sulphurized apricots (it has a little sulphur, which is further suppressed by the rest of the sherry, but somehow there is still - for me - an off note).
Sherry spices and spices with tannins/wood spices, milk chocolate, but also some bitter chocolate. Tobacco, leather associations, Arabica coffee powder. There is also a slightly sour orange (orange peel) that gives the whole thing a bitter touch.
Overall a dark, heavy sherry-based malt.
  • Taste
sweeter than expected, lovely sherry aromas, fruity, dark aromas again, dryness, then the tart orange again, tannins coat the tongue - the wood spice kicks in well; and there it is again: a strange note that disappears in the tart coffee powder aroma and yet gives a hint of sulphur.
Mmmh, and the chocolate turns back into a cocoa-based gentleman's chocolate, which produces even more dryness/dustiness. This "sulphur note" is then hidden behind it.
2nd Sip: very fruity, spicy, sherry through and through again, wood spice, orange, this sulphur note is pushed back even further and turns into a sour, tanned leather note - I think that for me this is the uneven aroma note that somehow bothers me; it has a slight overhang on the musty sourness that makes the malt seem uneven to me.
  • Finish
yeah, quite long lasting, dry, a few nutty aromas come through here, but overall more on the bitter coffee powder side. Dark chocolate.
