This exceptional amaro is made by 3rd generation orange grower Edoardo Strano. His groves are over 100 years old and grow on the flanks of Mt. Etna, in mineral-rich volcanic soils. It incorporates three different varieties of oranges; Tarocco Nocellara, Tarocco Gallo, and Tarocco Melis, all of which are peeled by hand prior to infusion in pure alcohol. Each batch of alcohol has 7 rounds peels infused into it to concentrate the flavor and color. A separate infusion of Chinese rhubarb root, gentian, and cinchona bark offers the bitter component to this beverage. The final product is assembled, sweetened and cut with spring water from the volcano.

This distinguished expression of traditional Piemonte flavors is a wine-based Amaro, a predecessor to the now more common styles of Amari. It is prepared by an infusion of Cardoon, Blessed Thistle, and other botanicals in the estate wine of Bosca, then rested on new oak for at least six months. The recipe originated with the founder of this now 7th generation winemaking family. Appreciation of Cardoon and Blessed Thistle dates back to antiquity and today they remain popular in Piemontese regional cusine. 17% abv.
Whether a cordial, made from various fruits, or a liqueur, which is made from herbs, seeds, roots or nuts, we have the monks of 15th century Europe to thank for creating the recipes that are still used today and are an essential component to any cocktail connoisseur's cabinet.
