The protagonist of the Castello Vicchiomaggio portfolio (certainly in terms of pricing) is the 2018 FSM. This is 100% Merlot from a vineyard site rich in clay soils. Production is limited to 1,500 bottles. You will discover layers of ripe fruit, baked plum, smoke, tobacco and tarry smoke on this full-bodied red wine. It shows gentle tannins and rich textural weight that borders on feeling somewhat flabby or soft. Monica Larner
