Chinuri (chee-new-ree) is an endemic variety from Kartli region of Georgia. The name comes from a particular golden color, highlighted on the label. Chinuri is a thin skin variety with very clear transparent pulp and juice. Goga Tevzadze, the winemaker at Tevza, is on a mission to explore, preserve and promote indigenous varieties from Kartli. This particular year he kept the wines with the skins for 4-6 six weeks the result is still only a mild yellow to amber wine. This hazy, unfiltered and low SO2 is an amazing introduction to skin contact wines. A little crazy and certainly alive!
This wine offers very complex aromas of mint, green herbs, bay leaf, pickled plums, and crab apple on a richly textured, nearly oily frame.

Mtsvane or Mtsvane Kakhuri is a grape variety used to make Georgian wines. It is used to make white wine. It is often blended with Rkatsiteli to which it adds a fruity, aromatic balance. In the Georgian language Mtsvani means new, young and green.
On rich and fertile land, the region of Kakheti is Georgia's agricultural powerhouse producing 70% of the countries grapes. Broken down into three main regions, it is then split further in to over 25 established terroirs such as Tsinandali, Teliani, Napereuli and Mukuzani. The region's main varieties for reds are Saperavi and Cabernet Sauvignon, and for whites, Kakhuri and Rkatsiteli Mtsvane. The country's traditional methods are once again being employed with re-emergence of Kakehtian wines, which are aged in earthenware jars after an extended three or four month maceration.
