Leopold Navy Strength Gin 750ml

NV Leopold Navy Strength Gin [click image to zoom]
image may not be actual bottle available

If you're used to Leopold’s small batch gin, the Navy Strength is a complete surprise. Where the small batch gin soft citrus and garden herbs notes, the Navy Strength hits the nose with abundant amounts of juniper, which is no wonder given Leopold’s doubled the juniper in the recipe. At 57% abv, this is a masterful distillation given how well balanced it is on the palate showing surprising little heat.

Because it was stored next to gunpowder munitions on the naval warships, Navy Strength gin was distilled to a proof just high enough that if it spilled during battle, the ship's gunpowder would still ignite. In crafting the maritime spirit, Todd Leopold individually distilled each botanical, in order to control the final blend.

Type: Gin and Jenever
Gin has come a long way since its infamous origins as the scourge of the working classes in 18th century in England. Once called "mother's ruin," gin and its closest relative, Jenever, enjoyed mass popularity during the early 20th century, in cocktails and punches across the globe, but declined with cocktail culture in the 60's and 70's. The international resurgence of martinis and speakeasies has led to a boom in microdistilleries producing high-quality gins for all tastes, from dry to sweet, and with all the aromatic variety of a spice market.
