Wines: Pernand-Vergelesses

A Hilly village in the Côte de Beaune district that shares part of the Corton hill (nearly a quarter of the Grand Cru Corton-Charlagne) with Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix. Most of the villages vineyards lie on the east-facing side of the Bon Noel hill separating it from Savigny-les-Beaune, of which it shares with it the finest red wine vineyard, Les Vergelesses. Red still accounts for most of the village wines- they are generally less rustic and have more weight than those of Ladoix or Chorey-les-Beaune, however planting of Chardonnay have doubled in the last few decades, mostly replacing Aligote, totaling two fifths of area under vines. To account for this change three new premier crus have been added (all white) to the original six.
