For more than 100 years we made wines in the traditional method with excellent results, but distribution was limited to the province of Pontevedra. To bring our wines to a wider international audience, we founded the Altos de Cristimil winery in the "Rias Baixas” denomination. We use the most modern methods and winemaking techniques, which extract the maximum potential from our grapes while respecting their natural character. The partial cold maceration and combination of our different coupages, balanced in ideal proportions allows for singular fruit expression, aromatic complexity and freshness. - Winemaker's Notes

Varietal: Albarino
Bursting with sunshine and refreshing fruit, Albariño is the main grape of Spain's north western region of Rias Baixas. Typical aromas of stone and citrus fruit are complemented with an exhilarating acidity. Called Alvarinho across the border in Portugal, it is also bottled as a varietal and an important blending component in good quality Vinho Verde. DNA profiling suggests it is identical to the Savagnin grown in France's Jura region, which is also Alsace as Traminer, the Gewurztraminer descended from.

Country: Spain
With more area under vines than any other country, it ranks third in terms of quantity of wine produced. The range of its wines is a reflection of the country's regional climatic diversity ranging from the rich and sumptuous reds of the hot and arid Ribera del Duero to the light, crisp whites of the cool Atlantic region of Galicia and Basque Country. For some of the country's best reds, try the regions of Rioja, Navarra, Ribera del Duero, Priorat, and Murcia. Spain is also responsible for some of the world's finest fortified and dessert wines, the finest of which come from the town Jerez (Sherry), in Andalucía.

Region: Rias Baixas

Type: White
White wine is a wine whose color can be pale-yellow, yellow-green, and yellow-gold colored. The wine is produced from a variety of grape varieties. The flavor and color comes from the juice of the grape and sometimes the skin of the grape as well. Interestingly, not all white wine comes from white grapes. Some select red grapes are used as in Champagne.
